Basic rules
- Each new game starts from one of the 960 legal back ranks; Black mirrors White.
- Bishops start on opposite colors and the king starts between the rooks.
- Castling puts the king on the g- or c-file and the rook on the f- or d-file; both may already stand there, the squares they cross must be empty, and the king may not start in, pass through, or land in check.
- Checkmate, draw, and promotion rules match classic chess, including promotion to a rook, bishop, or knight.
